Our Year-Round Track Out Plan

· · ·

Today is the first official day of track out. The boys attend a year-round school and I really like it. In October we get 3 weeks off and it’s the perfect time to plan some cool weather family activities.

The few weeks leading up to track out I make a track out bucket list. Last year we surprised the kids with a trip to Great Wolf Lodge and this year we are taking a trip to visit friends and family in Charleston, SC.

Our track out bucket list this fall will include a lot of being a tourist in our own city.

Here’s our list:

  • Marbles Kids Museum
  • Pullen Park
  • Prairie Ridge EcoStation
  • NC Zoo
  • Library
  • Farmer’s Market

That’s a pretty ambitious list considering we only really have about 2 weeks at home but I think we can accomplish most of those things. However, I do find that it is important to build in a few low key down time days at home so everyone feels well rested. On those days I have made a track out to-do list for the boys before they can earn screen time.

I’m fairly lenient about what counts as completing a task of the list, especially for the younger kids. But I find that my kids are better behaved when they have some sort of structure and responsibility. Plus doing a bit of reading and brain work helps keep them on track with their school learning.

Aside from my house being a total wreck when they boys are tracked out I really love having them home.
