I almost went to college to study….

1998 Me – I could have sworn I was super fashionable?

Most of you may not know that I have a Bachelor degree in Communication. It’s a pretty broad degree which means you know a little but not a lot about various forms of communication… like radio, television, newspaper, magazine, etc… I went to school before social media was really a thing so I didn’t study that but somehow ended up here.

Anyway, when I was in high school I originally thought that I wanted to attend a college to study interior design. Every college I visited was for some type of design, except for the one I actually selected. I don’t regret not studying interior design. But I do still enjoy the process of interior design when I get the chance. The first few years of our marriage, we were never in a financial position to do much interior designing that I like. We owned a lot of hand-me-down furniture pieces and function over style. I’m a person that is content with what I have if I can’t have what I really want. Meaning, I’m not going to invest in something I only sort of like. I’d much rather save my money and wait until I can get exactly what I like, therefore I’m just content with what I have at the time.

Despite not being able to do much home design the past decade or so I always appreciated great style and kept up with the latest trends. Now that we are building our first home I’ve finally be able to exercise my design muscle and it feel great. There are parts of us that have to be put on hold while we tackle other ventures (for me it was having lots of babies). It doesn’t mean our passions are gone but they are just on hold until we are able to pick them back up. I don’t know if I’ll every do interior design professional, it’s not really something that interests me, but I am enjoying the process right now.

I have high end taste but I’m very frugal so I really like the challenge of recreating a high end design on a budget. As we move into this new phase of home ownership I hope to share some of my design ideas, inspiration and budget friendly tips on this site. I have so many ideas swirling around in my head, I can’t wait until we are in our new home and I can see all of my design ideas become a reality.
