“Muppets Most Wanted” is the eighth theatrical film featuring the Muppets. It features many of the classical comedy gags, musical numbers and celebrity guest appearances that you would expect from the Muppets.
I took Jude (my 5 year old son) to see the movie and judging his reaction I think it was a hit. At the climax of the movie he was standing up jumping and cheering that the Muppets saved the day. The film’s opening number is pretty hilarious where they Muppet crew declared they were making a sequel with an epic song and dance number. The number of celebrity appearances in the film almost upstages the beloved Muppet characters but luckily the Muppets can certainly carry their own throughout the film.
I really love Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell and Tina Fey as the supporting cast for the Muppets, their unique comedic styles complimented the Muppets very well. I also really enjoyed the music written by Bret McKenzie, he helped write the music for the previous Muppet movie so the musical styling of this film felt very similar and was obviously pretty funny.
Muppets Most Wanted has a slightly darker tone than some of their other films but is still very family friendly and teaches a wonderful lesson about the importance of family. I really love that after 20+ years the Muppets have still got that quirky humor that appeals to children of all ages.
Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid, Dublin and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon and Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard.
MUPPETS MOST WANTED opens on Friday, March 21. It is rated PG and has a running time of 107 minutes.
