New Daniel Tiger Toys Encourage Pretend Play

I grew up watching Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. Everyday I would change my sweater and shoes and sing along with Mr. Roger. That show is one of my all time favorite children’s program and I’m so happy that The Fred Rogers Company is creating new programing based on Fred Roger’s Land of Make Believe. Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood is the first series developed by The Fred Rogers Company since Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood. It is an animated series that revolves around the lives of your favorite characters from the Land of Make Believe that have since grown up and had families of their own, much like the children that grew up watching Mr. Rogers.

Each episode of Daniel Tiger focus on helping children overcome everyday issues that preschool children face like feelings, potty time, and being a good neighbor. I recently participated in a telephone call with the creator of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Angela Santomero, who shared with us the preparation that goes into writing each episode of the show to insure that preschool children and parents are both entertained and are learning valuable life lessons. I love that Daniel Tiger helps children learn how to deal with emotions, social situations and how to be a kind and caring person. This is especially important to me since I have a son with Sensory Processing Disorder and he often has trouble managing his emotions and understanding social cues.

The creators of the show along  with Child Development Consultant, Roberta Schomburg and Production Manager, Chris Loggins have developed a new line of Daniel Tiger toys that encourage pretend play. Each toy is made to inspire creative and imaginative play. I really love that they have taken such care and consideration into creating toys that are not only fun but serve a developmental purpose for children.

We received some of the new toys and the boys immediately loved them.

Fred Rogers said: “In all things we do, we should think of the children first. How can we support growth and development?”

It’s very evident that the people at The Fred Rogers Company are taking this into consideration in everything that they do.
