Creepy Crawler Fruit Snack

·

My boys love fruit. When the box of Lil Snappers fruit arrived I unpacked the contents and left it on the kitchen table. Soon after the boys discovered the haul of fruit they devoured 2 mandarin oranges and an apple, each! I had to move the fruit to higher ground so they wouldn’t spoil their supper.

Lil Snappers is such a smart idea, Stemlit and Sunkist joined together to package and market fruit to kids. It’s just your standard produce but with fun cartoon characters and packaging that appeals to children. Lil Snappers offers a variety of apples, pears, and citrus fruits that kids are sure to love.

Lil Snappers has a collection of kid-friendly fruit recipes to help jazz up snack time. I took their Creepy Crawler Fun Fruit recipe and created my fun version with the fruit I had on hand.

Creepy Crawler Fruit Snack

Ingredients

  • 2 Sunkist Little Snapper citrus (I used Cara Cara oranges)
  • 1 Strawberry
  • 2 Raisins (for the eyes)

Directions

  • Slice one citrus fruit in half crosswise and lay each half flesh-side down on a serving platter/board, to create the “body” of the crawler.
  • Slice remaining citrus fruit into cartwheel halves* and position 6 halves, rounded peel-edge up, around the “body” of the crawler to form “legs.”
  • Slice off the stem end of the strawberry; then halve lengthwise to produce a “head.”
  • Position each “head” against the body of the crawler, flesh side down; secure with a toothpick, if desired.
  • Attach raisin eyes with toothpicks.
  • Reserve unused fruit for additional snacking

* Turn the unpeeled fruit on its side and cut a thin slice from both ends; discard ends. Then slice the fruit crosswise into approximate 3/8” wheels. Slice wheels into halves.

I made the Creepy Crawler Fruit Snack as a surprise for snack time and Jude LOVED his Bug snack! He ate every part, including the leftovers.
