StoryBook Theater presents Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale

· · ·

Friday Night Jude and I went on a special Mother/Son Date night to the theater. We got dressed up and went downtown to the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium to see the special production of Rapunzel!

Storybook Theater a new partnership with the Duke Energy Center for Performing Arts brings to life four favorite children’s tales – Rapunzel, Winnie the Pooh, Dora the Explorer, and Frosty the Snowman.

Before the show we attended a special VIP reception where we got to meet the wonderful cast.

The one-hour show was a perfect introduction for kids to theater and the performing arts. The story was filled with music, funny, and entertaining for kids of all ages. Despite a few audio technical difficulties in the beginning the show was great.

Jude was already familiar with the character of Rapunzel from the popular Disney film, Tangled but the storyline was vastly different. The backdrop and stage design was simple and worked well throughout the different scenes.  The props and effects were minimal yet kept kids on the edge of their seats. All of the songs were catchy and sung by a great cast, Jude was singing the songs all the way home.

I am so glad Jude and I have the opportunity to attend events like this together. I’ve always had a passion for theater. When I was in college I studied abroad in London, England where I studied theater and attended several performances in the West End. I’ve never been much of an actress, I consider myself more of a “behind-the-scenes-gal”. So it’s important that I’m able to share one of my passions with my kids. I hope we can attend more shows together and that his enthusiasm grows for the arts.
