The Give-Back: Joe Van Gogh Organic Coffee Review + Giveaway

·
Every Sunday here at The B Keeps Us Honest I highlight companies that “give-back” to the community. If your company or a company you know gives-back to the community I would love to know about it. Please contact me.

Today’s give-back company is Joe Van Gogh Coffee

I don’t drink coffee but I am married to a coffee connoisseur. So today’s review is brought to you by my handsome husband, Joe (not Van Gogh).

Joe Van Gogh gave us two of their blends to check out.  Usually I’m a single-origin kind of guy, because blends sometimes end up being a mix of good beans with not-so-good ones, but this was definitely not the case with JVG; it’s high quality all the way.

The first blend I tried was the High Noon blend, which per my request was provided with a course ground for French press.  This coffee has an excellent body and a classic flavor that is bold but very smooth, and made a superb French press.  Course ground coffee is also good for a cold-filter brewing method, so I gave that a shot as well, and ended up with a pretty decent Thai-style iced coffee.

Red River blend was next on the agenda.  This coffee is a blend of Peru and Sumatra, and has a fruity taste with a little bit of spice to it.  I don’t always go for Sumatra-blends, but this is one of the better ones I’ve had, and also made a good French press.  The addition of milk and sugar bring out the flavor of this one, if you’re into that sort of thing.

About Joe Van Gogh

Joe Van Gogh is a certified organic coffee roaster located in North Carolina. They offer a variety of certified Fair Trade and Shade Grown coffees. Owner, Robbie Roberts has been in the coffee industry since 1991. Joe Van Gogh roasts their coffee in small batches to order, because they believe fresh coffee is the best coffee.

In addition to all the Fair Trade and Green benefits of Joe Van Gogh they also give-back. They give a percentage of profits from their Cafe Femenino coffees to enhance the lives of  women coffee producers in developing communities around the world.
