My All-Time Favorite on Netflix Streaming

One of my all-time favorite T.V. shows is Quantum Leap. I remember watching it when I was young with my dad. We always enjoyed see which period in time Sam would leap into and what crazy things he needed to “set right”.

After Jude was born Joe and I spent most of our evenings watching TV and Quantum Leap was one of the first shows we binged watched. Granted this was in the days before Streaming TV but we carefully planned out our DVD arrivals so we could watch as many episodes as possible.

We spent many nights cuddled on the couch with a newborn baby watching Sam and his hologram friend Al travel throughout time hoping his next leap might be the leap home.

Now Quantum Leap in on Netflix Streaming and we can watching it whenever we want.

Minion Appleasauce Craft

Hey kids, I’ve got a great idea! Let’s combine snack time, craft time and your favorite movie characters for one totally awesome afternoon activity.

Today we’re going to make Minion Applesauce cups to celebrate the coming Minion invasion. The new Minion movie is being released this summer (July) and we’ve got to get prepared. These easy-to-make decorative snack cups could be used at a birthday party, movie night, or just a fun afternoon activity. It’s easy enough that you can create them anytime.

  • 6 pack of 3.9oz Individual Mott’s Natural Apple Sauce
  • Construction Paper (Yellow, White and Black)
  • Scissors
  • Glue Stick
  • Pencil

    1. Using the pencil, trace the top of the Mott’s Applesauce cup onto the yellow paper.
    2. Cut out the yellow circle and glue to the top of the Mott’s cup. This yellow circle is now the face for your Minion.
    3. Net you will want to cut out a long strip of black paper and glue it onto the Minion’s face.

Then you want to create the eye (or eyes) of your Minion. Cut out a large black circle, a medium white circle and a small black circle, stack from largest to smallest and glue them together creating the goggled minion eye(s).Finally glue the eye(s) onto the minion face and viola! you have yourself a Minion snack.

Scotties Tissues Sponsors Cat & Kitten Adoption #bringhomeabox

Are you considering adopting a cat?

If so, June might be a great month to adopt a cat or kitten from the SPCA of Wake County.

SPCA Wake County Logo

June is National Cat Adoption Month and Scotties Facial Tissues is sponsoring select cat and kitten adoptions at three rescue organizations along the east coast. Our local SPCA, SPCA of Wake County in North Carolina is one recipients that will receive $15,000 to use towards the placement of cats in kittens into loving homes.

Watch this short video to find our more…

“There is so much good that we hope to do in 2015 for cats and kittens in need of a good home,” said John Robertson, Scotties Marketing Director. “Whether it’s inviting a new kitten into a forever home or bringing home a box of tissues to a sick child – these are the moments of softness and compassion that should be praised and supported.”

Each year, approximately 8-12 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide and on average 5-9 million are euthanized. Scotties hopes to rally support for this cause and to put approximately 100 – 150 cats and kittens into their forever homes.

Summer Learning with Netflix

The school year is wrapping up but that doesn’t mean the learning is put on pause. We are on the go a lot during the summer but we regularly have some “rest” time in the afternoons.  The little ones nap and the bigger ones read, play quietly or watch a show. I try to optimize screen time by choosing educational shows that the kids will enjoy.

Here are a few of our favorites on Netflix Instant:

The Boxcar Children – Based on a beloved book series. Fearful of being sent to live with relatives they’ve never met, four homeless, orphaned siblings turn an abandoned boxcar into their new secret home.

Leapfrog – An early-learning series filled with music-filled animated adventure.

Wild Kratts – Zoologists Martin and Chris Kratt morph from live forms into their animated selves, complete with Creature Power Suits, in this animal show for kids.

The Magic Schoolbus – Join Ms. Frizzle as the Magic School Bus travels to outer space, under the sea, through an anthill — and even inside the human body!

Bill Nye the Science Guy – Host Bill Nye gets kids fired up about science, sharing his enthusiasm for all its branches, from astronomy to complex ideas about genetics.

There is also a huge selection of kid-friendly documentaries as well as movies based on popular children’s book series.

And don’t forget to check out the great DVD selections like Liberty Kids, Wishbone, Schoolhouse Rock and more.

How to Capture the Beauty of Everyday

Magical moments can happen wherever you are… the park, grocery store, a friends house, in your own back yard. I love to capture the beautiful little moments of everyday life. The simple things can sometimes be the most beautiful. But I’m not always prepared to capture these moments on camera.

How to Capture the Beauty of Everyday

  1. Use your mobile phone’s camera. Since I have 4 small children I don’t typically haul around my large DSLR camera everywhere I go. Luckily, it’s not necessary to have a state-of-the-art camera on hand 24/7 to photograph life’s everyday occurrences. With Walmart Family Mobile and my new Samsung Galaxy Avant I have the ability to capture and share our favorite moments wherever we are.
  2. Pause. Life gets busy and we can often miss magical moments when we are constantly on the go. Hit the pause button on life and just observe the world around. Use your mobile phone to snag a quick picture of your little ones reading or playing in the yard.
  3. Get Creative. Photos don’t always have to be action packed, full of people smiling and looking directly at the camera. Take a picture of the roses in your garden or the dirty soles of your child’s feet. These pictures give a glimpse of reality and the simplicity of life.
  4. Lighting. Lighting can make or break a picture. You’ll typically find the best lighting outside. But life doesn’t always happen outside so utilize natural light from windows whenever possible.
  5. Share Your Photos. With Walmart Family Mobile’s 4GE LTE data you can quickly upload your pictures to great sharing sites like Flickr, Instagram, Facebook and more.

What everyday activities do you wish you could capture and share?

Walmart Family Mobile allows me access to a nationwide network with no contract. I get Unlimited Talk, Text and Data/Web for only $29.88/month. And my Samsung Galaxy Avant has all of the apps and features I need to photograph, edit and share my family’s favorite moments.

About Walmart Family Mobile

At my local Walmart store the Family Mobile display is located at the rear of the store in the electronics department. Within the electronics department is a mobile phone section.  I found the Samsung Galaxy Avant purchase card on an end-cap facing the wall of televisions. After selecting the blue purchase card for my phone (Samsung Galaxy Avant) and the starter kit I purchased the phone at the mobile phone counter and an associate helped me set it up.

First select the phone of your choice, Walmart offers a variety of popular smart-phones. After selecting your phone of choice (I suggest the Samsung Galaxy Avant) you will also need to purchase the $25.00 starter kit if you are not already using Walmart Family Mobile as your service provider. The Walmart Family Mobile service is $29.88/month (for the first line) Unlimited Talk, Text & Data service plan which includes up to 1G of 4G LTE data.

Walmart Family Mobile is a postpaid service on a nationwide network with no contract. A Walmart Associate can help you get your phone set up and tell you more about the product and services.

Marvel’s Daredevil on Netflix

We love all things Marvel so when Netflix announced that they would be producing an exclusive Daredevil series we were pretty thrilled. From day one we’ve been hooked, pacing ourselves so we don’t binge watch the whole series.

Marvel's Daredevil

Joe is the bigger Marvel fan so here is his opinion on the series:

Netflix’s new series Daredevil is by far the most faithful adaptation of the character to date. Instead of trying to make Daredevil into an overly brooding Batman-without-a-cape, the series presents a complex character in Matt Murdoch, who retains his optimistic idealism even as he grapples with difficult moral issues, and believes that the U.S. criminal justice system can work even as he operates outside of it. Also the fighting is really cool.

The series is the darkest, grittiest material that Marvel Studios has produced, and it is definitely not for kids, but it is distinctly Marvel. I’m excited to see how Daredevil ties in with the larger Marvel Universe, in the upcoming Defenders series (also on Netflix) and beyond.

About Marvel’s Daredevil

“Marvel’s Daredevil” is a live action series that follows the journey of attorney Matt Murdock, who in a tragic accident was blinded as a boy but imbued with extraordinary senses. Murdock sets up practice in his old neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York where he now fights against injustice as a respected lawyer by day and masked vigilante at night.

Also, if you like Marvel’s Daredevil you should check out Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. which is also available on Netflix.

Help Me Choose a Birth Announcement

I know I’m a little behind on putting together birth announcements for Abel but better late than never right? I’ve found a few lovely designs on and now I need your help deciding which design to choose.

Here are my top 5:

birth announcement minted 1

birth announcement minted 2

birth announcement minted 3

birth announcement minted 4

birth announcement minted 5

I love that they are all a bit whimsical but still a great design, it’s terribly hard to choose.

A great design is hard to beat but you’ve also got to have a great photo to include, everyone loves an adorable new baby photo.

I’m thinking of using one (or all) of these photos of Abel.
