No one has time to be sick

Somehow we’ve managed to dodge any major illness in our home this fall/winter season. Just a few runny noses but I know it’s coming. The coughing, the congestion, the sneezing, the dreaded winter cold. I’m prepare this season with Children’s cold medicine on hand.

When my boys get sick I don’t want to drag them to the store to buy cold medicine, I want to walk to the medicine cabinet and get them exactly what they need so they will be feeling better as soon as possible.

Just last week my 2 youngest had low fevers and didn’t feel well so I’m glad I had some Children’s Advil on hand. The grape flavor made it easy for them to take and within 24 hours they were back to the normal wild and crazy little boys I love so much.

Moms know that when one child gets sick the probability of all remaining children catching the same illness is pretty high. So when the first child shows signs of an illness I go into disinfecting mode. I clean everything I can get my hands on and I immediately start to treat their symptoms to help them feel better. You’ve got to be proactive as a mom of many kids or your whole house will be down for the a week or more. Who as time for that?

Pfizer Pediatric products like Children’s Advil, Children’s Dimetapp Cold & Cough’s and Children’s Robitussin DM Day/Night Pack are great products to keep stocked in your medicine cabinet this winter. When sickness happens, you’ll be prepared.

Thanksgiving Juice Box Craft for Kids

This holiday season make the whole family envious of the kid’s table with these adorable turkey juice boxes. They are easy to make and a great craft to make with kids ahead of time. My kids get super excited about crafts and are very creative once I let them free to create as they desire.

I set out a bunch of craft supplies so they could create juice box turkeys.

Our supplies:

  • construction paper (brown, red, yellow, white)
  • craft feathers
  • googly eyes
  • glue
  • scissors
  • Juicy Juice boxes

I let the boys help me create and assemble the first juice box turkey.

This is our joint effort juice box turkey.

Then I set them free to make their own juice box creations.  Jude made a juice box pilgrim to accompany the turkey.

We love spending our time during the holidays together being crafty. If you’re looking for more family time ideas check out Juicy Juice Family Time activity ideas.

I received the featured product in exchange for my honest opinion. My opinions are not influenced by the company.

Learning with Lego Robotics

Did you know that there are robotics groups your kid can join? Snapology offers robotics for all ages, from 3 years old up into the teen years. Students learn pseudo-coding, coding, robotics and engineering principles. In addition to the robotics classes there is competition robotics, which allows teams to work together to problem solve real-world problems. The teams compete against other teams and have opportunities to advance to national levels. The Snapology competition robotics program is educational and loads of fun.

My boys love all things Lego. You may remember my post from a few days ago when Simon had a Lego Ninjago themed birthday party? Or remember that time we went to see the Art of the Brick by Nathan Sawaya. Of maybe you’ve noticed the thousands of Instagram and Facebook pictures I post there my kids are playing with Legos? I sure notice how much they love Lego every single days when I step on one! But really, we do love Lego, it’s one of the few toys that all 4 of my boys love and will always play with.

I mean just look at tonight’s Lego creations: An elevator by Jude (9), A helicopter by Noah (6) and a castle battle by Simon (5).

A few years ago Jude got to experience Lego Robotics and ever since he’s been hooked on making sets with moving parts. We have a few electronic Lego pieces which the boys are always fashioning into some new robot. They don’t really understand how all of the parts work together, they are just tinkering. But image the amazing things they could create if they had more tools and information?

There are Snapology centers all around the U.S. and franchise opportunities if you’d like to see one in your city. They also offer birthday parties, STEM classes, camps and more.

Body Confidence #MonistatCure

As you get older your body changes. If you’re a woman that’s carried a child you’ve probably noticed that you can never quite get back your pre-pregnancy body. I’m not just talking about weight and dress size, but hormones. Something magical happens with the female body during pregnancy. Hormones kick in and the body grows and changes in new, amazing way. But after all of the changes that are essential for a pregnancy your body feels and acts differently after pregnancy.

Personally, I’ve noticed that my hair and skin have changed since having kids. I find it more difficult to lose weight in certain areas of my body. I also noticed changes in my lady parts. With the fluctuation of hormones and all of the physical changes it can be hard to feel comfortable in your own body, much less sexy. It’s been 3 years since my last baby and I’m just now starting to regain confidence in my body. Confidence comes by being knowledgeable and experienced. After major changes happen in your body it’s totally normal to feel less confident. It takes time to get re-acquainted with your body. Now that I’m older I am less concerned about what others think of me but my body is also less reliable. It’s important for me to be prepared for sudden changes in my body so I keep Monistat products on-hand.

Did you know that Monistat relieves symptoms four times faster and works on more strains of yeast than the leading prescription? Because of this it’s less likely to develop a drug resistance. Monistat is the #1 doctor recommended OTC brand with a long-term record of success — it has been in use for the treatment of vaginal yeast infections for over 40 years.

Our bodies go through a lot of changes so we should all learn to be familiar with our bodies. The better we know ourselves and our intimate areas, the easier it is to recognize when something is not right, like a yeast infection, and correct it .

Your Daily Dose of Cute bought to you by Scotties

Ted I’ll admit it, I’m not a cat person. Not by choice though. I’m allergic to cat dander, it’s a genetic curse I guess you could say. So, we’ll probably never adopt a cat. However, I do think cats are pretty rad.

Earlier this month, Scotties Facial Tissues partnered with animal rescue organizations up and down the east coast in an effort to get eligible cats and kittens into loving adoptive homes. Each organization – The Animal Protective Foundation (Albany, NY), Boston MSPCA (Boston, MA), and the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (Tampa, FL) all received $5,000 each to go towards the re-homing of cats.

All fees associated with adopting select felines were waived at participating locations. Initiated by Scotties in 2014, this ongoing effort to increase the number cats and kittens going to good homes has been a key focus for the brand. All adoptable cats and kittens are spayed / neutered, microchipped, screened for temperament, and are up to date on all shots and vaccinations. In the past four years, Scotties has found homes for more than 700 cats and kittens.

“Here at Scotties, we are delighted to see this program in its fourth year,” said John Robertson, Scotties Marketing Director, “We take great pride in helping hundreds of cats find the loving forever homes they so desperately need.”

From June 1st through the 7th during “Scotties Adoption Week” over 400 cats and kittens have gone into loving forever homes.

Now for your daily dose of cute, these are just a few of the cats that were adopted this past month…

5 Top Picks for New Parents

Top Picks

My 4th and final baby is now officially a toddler. For what seems like eternity I was in constant baby mode. I was surrounded by tiny clothes and all the latest baby gear. I’ve tried a lot of different baby products over the past 8 years and I’d like to think I’ve got a pretty good idea of what is essential and what is not. I’ll be honest you don’t need a ton of gear to have a baby but there are a few items that just make life easier and I’m all about making life easier.

So if you’re a first time parents or not, here are a few of my favorite items for new parents.

  1. Ergo Baby Carrier – Little ones love to be held but life is busy and sometimes you need to get up and do stuff, like make yourself lunch. There’s nothing better than wearing a baby so you can eat.
  2. Medela Breast Pump – If you choose to breastfeed your baby a good breast pump is a must. I breastfed all of my boys but it wasn’t until baby 2 that I finally invested in a good breast pump and it saved my life… and it literally saved his life.
  3. NoseFrida Nasal Aspirator – I know it seems gross but I’ve tried all sorts of contraptions and the NoseFrida rocks. Babies get congested and you’ll use an aspirator way more than you thought and the NoseFrida gets it done. The NoseFrida was huge life saver when baby 3 had RSV.
  4. 4Moms MamaRoo – I used our 4Moms MamaRoo with my 3 youngest boys and it. was. amazing. The different movements make it so versatile a great for a baby that loves movement while they are sleeping.
  5. Aden + Anais Swaddling Blankets – Aside from a few structured swaddles the Aden + Anais Swaddling Blankets are the best for keeping baby cozy and snug while they sleep. Plus they always have the cutest designs.

I’d also suggest a good convertible car seat and reliable stroller as these things can be used for several years.

Scotties Facial Tissues Welcomes The Homeless Into Permanent Housing

I love that Scotties Facial Tissues is such a large supporter of organizations like The Pine Street Inn which provides shelter for the homeless.

January was a great month for 100 homeless people in Boston who are now living in permanent supportive housing thanks to the generosity of The Pine Street Inn. The Pine Street Inn is the largest resource for the homeless in the state of Massachusetts. They provide emergency shelters for the homeless, have street teams, they offer job placement programs as well as many other resources.

In a partnership with Scotties Facial Tissues, the new residents were welcomed into their new homes with comfort care packs. In an effort to kick off 2017 with a worthy cause, Scotties provided each of the 100 residents with a queen-sized fleece blanket, warm slipper socks, a mug with hot cocoa and marshmallows, and of course boxes of  soft Scotties tissues! These small gifts of comfort can be just what may be needed to turn a house into a home. For so many homeless people, who have not had a room of their own for a long time, this acted as one small step in their journey to a better life for themselves.

Maria, who has lived in her beautiful home for the last three months was previously homeless.  She has made her home her own by beautifully decorating it in the style of her native home, Columbia.  She is eager to put the Scotties blanket to use this winter!

How to Choose the Best Baby Carrier

Over the past 9 years I’ve used a lot of different baby gear and I’ve found that one of my must-have items is a great baby carrier. It’s simple, you need to get stuff done but babies demand being held. And while snuggling a sweet little baby 24/7 sounds awesome it isn’t practical. Baby carriers allow you to keep your baby close and feeling secure while freeing up your hands and allowing you to be mobile all the while.

Baby Carrier Back 2

There are many different kinds of baby carriers and the choices can be overwhelming so let me give you a brief run down on the various types of baby carriers.

  1. Wraps – Long piece of cloth that is wrapped around both the baby and user.
  2. Ring Slings – Long piece of cloth sewn on rings
  3. Pouch Slings – Sized pieces of fabric sewn together to create a pouch.
  4. Mei Tai – Waist band and shoulder straps sewn to a rectangular piece for fabric, belt and shoulder straps are tied.
  5. Buckle Carriers – Structured carriers that often have adjustable padded straps and buckles.

You can read more in detail about the types of carriers at Baby Wearing International. Of course there are also a variety of hybrid carriers as well.

So now that you know a little bit about carriers lets’ talk pros and cons.

Baby Carrier Wrap

I have found that I prefer different types of carriers for the different ages of my children and for different uses. I prefer a ring sling, pouch sling or wrap when my babies are newborns. They keep the baby close to my body and offer support for the baby’s head (when worn correctly). However, wrap slings do come with a learning curve and do require a bit of practice when tying different positions. Ring slings can put a lot of stress on one specific shoulder. And pouch slings are NOT one-size-fits all so you and your spouse will most likely not be able to share.

I prefer structured carriers or mei tais for older babies and toddlers. They are quicker and easier to operate and often provide greater comfort for the user. Most structured (buckle) carriers and mei tais can be worn on both the front and back. (I highly recommend getting a versatile carrier.) They are also typically adjustable to the size of the user, meaning both you and your partner can wear it. Structured carriers can get expensive and they often aren’t ideal for smaller infants and newborns.

You can read more about the pros and cons of different types of baby carriers on Parent dot Guide.

Baby Carrier Front

Ultimately I don’t think there is one superior carrier over another but you need to find out what works best for you and your baby. Examine your lifestyle and weigh out the pros and cons of the different types of carriers. And then once you’ve decided on the type of carrier then you have to compare brands to determine what fits your budget and which features you prefer. It can seem overwhelming but I think purchasing the carrier that works best for you will insure successful baby wearing. There are numerous benefits of babywearing and I’ve found that my babies are generally happier when they are being worn.
