KidloLand App Review

Simon has recently been playing a new app geared toward preschool children and he loves it. Educational songs and interactive games is one of his favorite things to watch when he gets iPad time. We downloaded the KidloLand app for free and then got a year subscription for complete access to all of their amazing kid safe content.

KidloLand offers over 95 favorite rhymes like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary had a little Lamb, Old MacDonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus and more.

Here are a few of the great features KidloLand offers:

  • With over 200+ fun & original children songs to teach ABCs, Phonics, Numbers, and more.
  • 20 Bedtime Stories, Fables and Animal Stories for kids.
THOUSANDS of interactive surprises with funny animations and sounds. A delight for little kids.
  • 200+ fun educational activities and 7 toddler and baby games.
  • Unlike videos and shows which one can only watch, in this app your kid can interact with the characters and things on screen.
  • Download songs and use the app offline in road trips, flights, doctor waiting rooms or to keep your kids engaged at home.
  • Playlist feature to play any 25 songs one after another uninterrupted.
  • Certified safe for kids by the KidSAFE program.
  • Always AD FREE.
  • New content is available for download every month so that you never run out of new options to treat your babies with.

Simon particularly loves the Christmas music. He could listen to Christmas music all year long and he pretty much does. But he also enjoys all of the different content that is organized into categories like Phonics, Stories, Nursery Rhymes, etc. The app is extremely easy to navigate and my 3 year old had no problem finding the content he wants to play.

In order to access each video/game you do have to independently download each file which can be a little time consuming if the child is waiting but I just downloaded most content before he played on the iPad. All of the download were pretty quick too.

Subscribe to KidloLand to get access to full content including future updates.
– Three options: $4.99/ month, $24.99/ 6 months or the best value: $39.99/ year.

Summer Memories Spent by the Pool

image016

I’m raising my family in the same neighborhood where I grew up, in fact, the same exact house. With all the nostalgia that comes with raising your kids in the same house where you grew nothing draws out the soft summer memories like taking my kids to our community pool.

Screen Shot 2016-08-06 at 7.42.04 PM Screen Shot 2016-08-06 at 7.42.19 PM

I spent many hours at our community pool hanging with friends, swimming on the swim team and serving as a lifeguard. Most of my fondest summer memories were made at that swimming pool, the same pool where my kids now hang out with their friends and swim on the same swim team.

I’ve taught my boys to swim in this pool and cheered them on during swim races. We’ve spent long summer nights eating pizza and ice cream beside the pool. Taking my boys to our community pool is like a refreshing trip back in time reminding me that the simplest times can produce meaningful lifelong impact.

Unplug and Get Outside with CLIF Kid

My kids are really into technology. It sucks them in and and stimulates their little brains. I love technology, it’s an important part of our culture. Kids and learn so much just with the touch of a screen. But it’s also important for kids to be active and engage in physical play. So everyday we make sure to unplug from technology and just play.

“Play is the highest form of research.” – Albert Einstein

We typically head outside, even if the weather isn’t ideal. When it’s cold outside we bundle up and play until our noses are pink. On rainy days, we don our rain gear and jump in the puddles. And on hot summer days we find respite under the shade of trees. The changing nature of the outdoors makes it an incredibly stimulating and multi-sensory place to play. Children learn so much through play and being outside in nature. But no matter the weather or our destination we always pack a snack. Kids need to fuel those little bodies while they explore the world around them and learn through creative, physical play time.

How I freshen up after a workout

I try to work out 3 times a week. Sometimes I go to the gym, sometimes I head outside. Exercise helps me maintain the energy and strength I need to keep up with my 4 busy boys. However, I don’t always have time to take a shower immediately after my workout. (Busy boys and all) So I have a little refresh routine I do after I exercise until I can take a shower, just to keep myself moderately clean.

I typically wipe away my sweat… I mean glow, then I wash my face and down below with Summer’s Eve Cleansing Cloths. I really dig these Summer’s Eve Cleansing Cloths, they are individually wrapped so I can just pop one in my gym bag or purse. It’s a simple and easy way to feel fresh when you time doesn’t permit a shower.

Kids ages 2-7 will enjoying playing with the LeapStart while simultaneously developing life skills.

My boys immediately figured out how to use the stylus to navigate the pages of the books. Each book is packed with over 30 activities from games, jokes, songs and more. I really love that there are book designed for different ages and abilities. All of my boys can have their own books that challenge them but are still easy enough for them to use on their own. I love watching them get excited about learning their ABCs, logic, fractions and more. LeapFrog always makes learning fun and encourages a love of learning in children.

Simple Limeade Popsicles

Over the long holiday weekend we stopped for lunch at Zoe’s Kitchen. While we were there I grabbed a gallon of their homemade limeade to take home.

My kids love Zoe’s Kitchen limeade. I thought I would make a super easy treat with the kids for our Fourth of July cookout. We made limeade popsicles. It’s so easy!

Screen Shot 2016-07-06 at 1.25.10 PM

Ingredients

  • Zoe’s Kitchen Limeade

Directions

  • Pour Zoe’s Kitchen Limeade into popsicle molds.
  • Place molds in freezer for about 6 hours
  • To remove from molds run under hot water for 10 seconds and gently pull apart.

With temperatures here in North Carolina easily reaching into the mid 90’s (not to mention the humidity and heat index) it’s nice to cool down with a frozen treat.

The boys absolutely love their limeade popsicles. They’re so easy to make I foresee us making them many times over the course of the summer.

The BGF – Movie Review

TheBFG56a26e3fcbee0

I can’t tell you how excited I was for the new Disney film of Roald Dahl’s famous, “The BFG”. I love anything written by Roald Dahl and just a few months ago Jude and I read “The BFG” together. I was very interested to see how Disney and Steven Spielberg would portray this beautiful and heartwarming story.

I contemplated taking Jude to the preview but I know how sensitive he is to things that are the slightest bit scary. So even though he’s 8 years old I decided it was best to watch it first. I remember him telling me it was scary when we read the book so I can only imagine how much more intense it would be for him to see it on the big screen. I don’t know if all children will react this way but the premise of the story is based around giants stealing children from their beds while they sleep, and then eating them. So that part of the story could be quite scary for some children.

However, like most of Roald Dahl’s stories they typically start off rather dark but always have fun and happy endings. (I can’t say the same for his adult fiction but that is something to discuss in another post.)

About The BFG
“The BFG” tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country. The BFG, while a giant himself, is a Big Friendly Giant and nothing like the other inhabitants of Giant Country. Standing 24-feet tall with enormous ears and a keen sense of smell, he is endearingly dim-witted and keeps to himself for the most part. Giants like Bloodbottler and Fleshlumpeate on the other hand, are twice as big and at least twice as scary and have been known to eat humans, while the BFG prefers Snozzcumber and Frobscottle. Upon her arrival in Giant Country, Sophie, a precocious 10-year-old girl from London, is initially frightened of the mysterious giant who has brought her to his cave, but soon comes to realize that the BFG is actually quite gentle and charming, and, having never met a giant before, has many questions. The BFG brings Sophie to Dream Country where he collects dreams and sends them to children, teaching her all about the magic and mystery of dreams. Having both been on their own in the world up until now, their affection for one another quickly grows, but Sophie’s presence in Giant Country has attracted the unwanted attention of the other giants, who have become increasingly more bothersome. Sophie and the BFG soon depart for London to see the Queen and warn her of the precarious giant situation, but they must first convince the Queen and her maid, Mary , that giants do indeed exist. Together, they come up with a plan to get rid of the giants once and for all.

Final Thoughts
I absolutely love the performance of Ruby Barnhill as Sophie. She is absolutely delightful and you automatically fall in love with this sweet little girl. The same can be said for The BFG, the special effects on the giants is wonderful especially the vulnerability and warmth captured in the eyes of The BFG. My favorite scene is their trip to dream country, it’s absolutely beautiful and there are several lovely lines that just resonate with you long after the movie is over.

I will probably wait a little while until I take my kids to see The BFG but I will be very excited when we all get to watch it together.

Super Abel and a Super Swim Diaper

We are at the pool a lot between swim team and recreational use I think we are at the pool almost every day during the summer. Abel is a water baby for sure. He loves to splash in the baby pool with his brothers.

When you’re at the pool as much as we are a reusable swim diaper is a must. We love the new Bumkins reusable swim diapers. They are durable and waterproof, they keep any diaper contents tightly contained to prevent spills. Plus, they have a ton of really cute prints available like this super adorable Superman diaper.

Screen Shot 2016-06-22 at 7.22.29 AM Screen Shot 2016-06-22 at 7.22.38 AM

Bumkins swim diapers are outfitted with three adjustable snaps on each side for easy changes. They are also machine washable.

Most pool require swim diapers for children who aren’t potty trained and the Bumkins swim diaper meets those requirements while looking adorable.

I was provided a featured product free of charge but all opinions are 100% mine.
