Guilt Free Summer Treats

Photo Jul 07, 3 00 47 PM

I’ve been cutting back my sugary treat intake over the past few months and with this blazing hot summer heat there is nothing I want more than a huge bowl of ice cream. When Joe and I were first married we would eat a bowl of ice cream almost every night… oh to be in my 20s again. After having 4 kids and surpassing my 35th birthday my body is no longer as forgiving of my indulgences. And I’m not just talking about the extra weight I’ve gained… I genuinely feel bad when I eat too much sugar.

We rarely eat sugary treats at night any more but on the occasion that I want something cold and sweet on these hot summer nights I’m stoked to learn about Arctic Zero, a zero-guilt sweet treat made with clean ingredients. The founder of ARCTIC ZERO created it for his mom—a Type-1 diabetic, because he believes that everyone should be able to enjoy delicious frozen desserts without any worries.

About Arctic Zero

  • ARCTIC ZERO is great for diabetics since it’s sweetened with monk fruit
  • ARCTIC ZERO is lactose free
  • ARCTIC ZERO only uses rBST-free whey protein
  • ARCTIC ZERO offers gluten free frozen dessert options.
  • ARCTIC ZERO is certified kosher, GMO free, and contains no artificial ingredients

You can buy Arctic Zero online or at your local grocery store.

We’ve tried several of the Arctic Zero flavors like Salted Caramel, Cherry Chocolate Chunk, Peanut Butter Swirl and more. The variety of flavors are amazing. The texture is a little bit different than a traditional ice cream, Joe says it reminds him of snow cream. I think my favorite flavor was the Cookie Shake and Joe’s favorite flavor was Peanut Butter Swirl.

The true test was weather or not Joe liked Arctic Zero. Ask anyone that knows him and they’ll tell you he has a slight obsession with ice cream. He’s also pretty picky about the kind of ice cream he eats so the fact that he really loves Arctic Zero tells me a lot. It’s not exactly like ice cream but it is a pretty great frozen dessert, especially for those that can’t typically have traditional ice cream.

Gearing up for Cars 3 with Juicy Juice

Disney Pixar’s “Cars 3” is cruising into theaters on June 16th, so to prepare for the racing excitement the boys and I took a little trip to the NC Museum of History to learn about the history of auto racing in North Carolina.

We aren’t big NASCAR or racing fans but North Carolina’s racing history dates back to the 1930’s and is currently a billion dollar industry in our state. So we felt obligated to learn more about what makes it such a popular sport. We got to see champion driver Richard Petty’s stock car and other popular racing memorabilia.

The boys were rather disappointed that none of the cars had eyes or could talk like the one from Cars but they are very excited for the upcoming “Cars 3” movie.

Preparing for Wild Weather and Runny Noses #SickJustGotReal

Photo Jan 13, 12 58 38 PM

As I’m writing this I have the windows opened and we just returned from an afternoon at the park as it is currently 78 degrees outside. Yet, only a few days ago it was only 9 degrees outside and the ground was covered with ice and snow. This is the weather we get in North Carolina. This is also how my kids end up with colds so frequently during the “winter”.

Thankfully my medicine cabinet is stocked and ready with all of the children’s cold medicines we might need during this crazy North Carolina winter.

Last Minute Stocking Suffer Idea for Gamers

My boys love all things Nintendo. Santa will be bringing them a few new games come Christmas morning including a few surprises in their stocking in their stockings.

If you’re looking for some awesome stocking stuffer ideas for your gamer try a Nintendo DS Game like Mario Party Star Rush or Amiibo figures.

Mario Party Star Rush

We love Mario Party so Mario Party Star Rush is a huge hit because it’s a game everyone can play. Players roll the dice, roam the board, and recruit fan-favorite allies to help earn stars and coins in frantic minigames. But unlike the previous Mario Parties there’s no waiting for your turn, all players participate simultaneously working to take down bosses on each game board. What’s really cool is that your friends don’t have to own the game to play with you, they just need their own DS. There is a guest download available on the Nintendo eShop that allows you to play with up to 3 friends.

After you’ve bought the new Mario Party Star Rush for Nintendo 3DS you’ll want to pick up a few Amiibo figures. Amiibo are figures that can be use with the Nintendo Wii U GamePad or New Nintendo 3DS series. Amiibos allow you to add special characters to games, unlock bonuses, or help level up existing characters. In Mario Party Star Rush specifically, you can use one of 7 new amiibo to immediately team up with Mushroom Kingdom allies.

A Few of your favorite Amiibo figures for Mario Party Star Rush are Boo, Wario, Donkey Kong and Daisy.

I foresee our family playing a lot Mario Party Star Rush this holiday season.

Nintendo 3DS XL Fun for the Whole Family

We are a Nintendo exclusive family. We own every Nintendo home gaming device ever released as well as most of the portable gaming devices. Over the past few months we’ve been playing with out new 3DS LX, the newest portable gaming device from Nintendo.

We are loving the new features of the 3DS XL. The 3D viewing takes games to a whole new level. The six included AR Cards bring game play right into your world. Plus, you can take 3D pictures and even record your own 3D videos. I really like that I can adjust the 3D feature or even completely disable it when needed. Sometimes it’s a cool feature but other times I like a classic game play, like when I’m playing MarioKart. The touch screen is actually a NFC (Near-Field Communication) which make the 3DS XL compatible with amiibo figures.  The Nintendo 3DS goes beyond just gaming, when connected to Wifi, you can stream movies and shows via Netflix, Hulu and more on the 3DS.

I feel like a kid again every time I play the Nintendo 3DS. I find that playing games can be very relaxing and after I’ve had a particularly stressful day it helps me to focus all of my attention in one place where I can just enjoy myself. I think my favorite game is MarioKart 7. When Joe and I were dating we used to play MarioKart so I have fond memories of racing around the Mushroom Kingdom and facing off with some of my favorite characters. My kids really love playing MarioKart 7 and they are way better than I am, in fact they love replaying the levels to beat my scores.

My husband has a 2DS so I’m able to play games on both systems which is great because we don’t have to repurchase games that we’ve been collecting for several years. However, you don’t have to purchase a lot of games to have fun on the 3DS as it comes standard with a built-in software that includes Miiverse, Mimaker, Nintenod eshop, Internet browser, 2 included games, 3DS Sound and more.

Magic Sketch Review + Giveaway

My boys are always drawing or writing. They use a LOT of paper with all of their little doodles. I love to encourage their creativity but sometimes we need a different way to express our creativity, like the Magic Sketch.

The Magic Sketch is a flexible, LCD screen that is transparent, allowing kids to trace with the provided stencils or from their own images!  Magic Sketch is from the makers of the hit product Boogie Board who are also the leaders in crystal display technology.

KidloLand App Review

Simon has recently been playing a new app geared toward preschool children and he loves it. Educational songs and interactive games is one of his favorite things to watch when he gets iPad time. We downloaded the KidloLand app for free and then got a year subscription for complete access to all of their amazing kid safe content.

KidloLand offers over 95 favorite rhymes like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary had a little Lamb, Old MacDonald, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Wheels on the Bus and more.

Screen Shot 2016-09-11 at 8.02.27 PM

Here are a few of the great features KidloLand offers:

  • With over 200+ fun & original children songs to teach ABCs, Phonics, Numbers, and more.
  • 20 Bedtime Stories, Fables and Animal Stories for kids.
THOUSANDS of interactive surprises with funny animations and sounds. A delight for little kids.
  • 200+ fun educational activities and 7 toddler and baby games.
  • Unlike videos and shows which one can only watch, in this app your kid can interact with the characters and things on screen.
  • Download songs and use the app offline in road trips, flights, doctor waiting rooms or to keep your kids engaged at home.
  • Playlist feature to play any 25 songs one after another uninterrupted.
  • Certified safe for kids by the KidSAFE program.
  • Always AD FREE.
  • New content is available for download every month so that you never run out of new options to treat your babies with.

Simon particularly loves the Christmas music. He could listen to Christmas music all year long and he pretty much does. But he also enjoys all of the different content that is organized into categories like Phonics, Stories, Nursery Rhymes, etc. The app is extremely easy to navigate and my 3 year old had no problem finding the content he wants to play.

Screen Shot 2016-09-11 at 7.48.44 PM

In order to access each video/game you do have to independently download each file which can be a little time consuming if the child is waiting but I just downloaded most content before he played on the iPad. All of the download were pretty quick too.

SUBSCRIBE

Subscribe to KidloLand to get access to full content including future updates.
– Three options: $4.99/ month, $24.99/ 6 months or the best value: $39.99/ year.

Summer Memories Spent by the Pool

image016

I’m raising my family in the same neighborhood where I grew up, in fact, the same exact house. With all the nostalgia that comes with raising your kids in the same house where you grew nothing draws out the soft summer memories like taking my kids to our community pool.

Screen Shot 2016-08-06 at 7.42.04 PM Screen Shot 2016-08-06 at 7.42.19 PM

I spent many hours at our community pool hanging with friends, swimming on the swim team and serving as a lifeguard. Most of my fondest summer memories were made at that swimming pool, the same pool where my kids now hang out with their friends and swim on the same swim team.

I’ve taught my boys to swim in this pool and cheered them on during swim races. We’ve spent long summer nights eating pizza and ice cream beside the pool. Taking my boys to our community pool is like a refreshing trip back in time reminding me that the simplest times can produce meaningful lifelong impact.
