Let’s talk about age, hormones and weight….all the things women love to talk about.
After Simon was born I worked really hard to eat healthy and exercise and I lost all of the baby weight plus more. I was down to my pre-wedding size. When I became pregnant with Abel I gained it all back. I was pretty frustrated to say the least. I wasn’t eating super healthy and I certainly wasn’t exercising, in fact due to some hip and pelvic pain(Symphysis pubis dysfunction) I was more sedentary than ever.
After Abel was born I didn’t lose much weight either which was really frustrating. So, I slowly started making dietary changes and became much more active and I slowly started to lose some of the baby weight. Then I decided to try birth control for the first time ever. I got an IUD. This made my body super confused, it thinks I’m pregnant and since I got the IUD I’ve gain back 10+ pounds despite healthy eating, exercising and breastfeeding.
I’m currently the heaviest I’ve ever been in my life outside of pregnancy and it’s frustrating. I’m not on a diet but I do eat healthfully… lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, no soda, small amounts of carbs, limited fried food, healthy snacks and the occasional bit of chocolate. I also go for long fast-paced walks at least 4 times a week. (I really wish I could afford a gym membership, I miss it soooo much) I know that with age my metabolism is slowing and it’s starting to show. But I also realize my hormones are out of whack and I really don’t like it. Therefore, soon I we will be changing our family planning tactics. Without going into too much detail I hope to have this IUD removed before the end of the year.
Hopefully, this along with an increase in daily activity and continuing to eat healthy foods I will begin to lose some of this weight.
If you’ve had an IUD did you notice weight gain?
How has age, pregnancy, children… affected your weight?
One of my favorite exercise classes is cycling. I haven’t been to a class in awhile and since I’m due to have baby 4 any day now it may be a few more weeks until I can attend a class but I’m looking forward to trying out the new cycle classes offered at Flywheel. I’ve also heard wonderful things about the Cycle and Barre classes they offer.
Flywheel offers indoor cycling with unprecedented amenities, including stadium-style seating, custom-made indoor cycling bikes, and complimentary towels and indoor cycling shoes for riders. In addition to indoor cycling classes, Flywheel also offers FlyBarre, a total body sculpting class that quickly reshapes the body for lean, strong and elongated muscles through small intense interval exercises choreographed to contemporary and inspiring music.
Triangle Flywheel Special Offers:
As an added bonus, Flywheel offers moms in the Triangle a great child care deal with Right Time Kids!, so they can have peace at mind while they’re working to stay fit. Located right down the street from the Flywheel location at 1028 Oberlin Rd., Right Time Kids! offers Flywheel class-takers a discounted rate of $6/hour vs. the regular $10/hour rate for childcare.
Have somewhere to be after your class? Raleigh’s first blow dry bar, Parlor Dry Bar – located in the same promenade as Flywheel – also offers Flywheel customers a 10% off deal so they can “Fly & Dry.”

With each pregnancy I find that my hip pain increases exponentially. In the past I only experienced pain during the last few weeks of pregnancy when the extra weight of the baby weighed on my hips but this time around I started feeling hip and pelvic pain during the 1st trimester. Pretty much any position in which I sat, stood or laid caused me discomfort. I sought aid from a chiropractor but I learned that loosening my muscles was key to relieving the pain so I decided to try some at home remedies like prenatal yoga.
I enjoy doing yoga when I’m not pregnant but being pregnant somewhat limits my ability to do the yoga I was used to, so I searched YouTube for some easy prenatal yoga videos and gave it a try. Thanks to our Roku I was able to stream the YouTube videos right on my television, this gave me plenty of room to spread out my yoga mat and enjoy the full stretch.
I also have this Yoga Pregnancy: Pre and Post Natal Workouts DVD which Joe bought for me when I was pregnant with Jude. It’s a great low-impact yoga video.
I’ve only tried a few YouTube videos but so far I really like Body Talk Daily Pregnancy Yoga:
And Ohana Prenatal Yoga:
Over the weekend I had horrible hip pain and spent a good portion of my day really working to stretch my legs, hips and lower back. Before I began my stretch I applied some heat for about 20 minutes and then after my stretch I applied ice for another 20 minutes. The next day I felt a thousand times better so now I do a bit of stretching each day to prevent major flare ups.
Even if you don’t have hip pain I recommend trying prenatal yoga, it really helps you relax and enjoy this brief time you have carrying your baby.
tip: You may also want to invest in a Yoga Block to help lift your bum off the floor.
Occasionally I convince Joe to do my prenatal yoga workouts with me, he enjoys yoga but it’s really funny to watch him respond when the instructor says things like, “wrap your arms around your belly and just enjoy bonding with your baby.”
FYI: I’m not a doctor or chiropractor but this is essentially what the chiropractor did for me at his office. However, if anything feels wrong don’t do it. It’s a good idea to consult your OB as well.
For Mother’s Day this year I asked for some home work out gear. Since I have 3 little ones and no childcare my workout times are fairly limited. Therefore my only option is to workout at home but doing jumping jacks and push-ups get boring really quickly. I love dancing (although I’m not very good) so I was thrilled to try out the new Zumba Fitness World Party game for the Wii U.
Zumba Fitness World Party-Burn up to 1,000 calories per hour as you immerse yourself in the movement and music of exotic global destinations from Puerto Rico to Brazil in this exhilarating at home workout complete with a new stylized HD visual presentation. Travel the world with celebrity Zumba® instructors, move to a cultural mix of dance styles across 40+ fresh songs and routines, and unlock rewards that reveal the rich heritage of each location.
I love that I can have a dance party in the privacy of my own living room while I work on my moves. No one has to see me stumbling over my own feet. Yet, I’m getting a great workout while I focus on mastering the moves. I simply strap on the game belt, insert my Wii controller into the belt and start my workout world tour.
The new World Party has over 30 new songs and realistic graphics make it easy to follow the moves. I really like that there is a practice mode so I can learn the moves before I’m thrown into the dance routine. After I set up my user profile the game keeps track of my progress and rewards me with special bonus features.
I really like workout with Zumba World Party in my living room, now if I could just keep my toddlers out from under my feet I might actually learn how to dance.

In March I made a commitment to get my pre-baby body back by my birthday. Well my birthday was last week and I am pretty close to my goal.
I wanted to weight 150lbs by my birthday.
As of May 12th (my birthday) I weigh 155lbs.
I knew that my weight loss goal was a little ambitious but I think I did pretty well especially since I didn’t get to workout as much as I wanted. I hope that all of the sickness that plagued our family over the past few months is done and over so I can get back into the habit of working out.
Overall, I’m very pleased with my result from just eating clean. We don’t eat out, eat processed foods and eat very few carbs and processed sugars. We do eat a lot of veggies, fruit and meat and that has really been the best way for us to lose weight without feeling hungry. I don’t count calories or refuse myself things that I like I just reserve them for special occasions.
My goal for the next few months is to lose those last few pounds but really focus on toning my muscles.
I’ve gone from wearing my maternity jeans because my size 14’s were too tight (postpartum) to wearing a size 10.
I don’t want to get too hung up on the numbers but eating healthy and exercising makes me feel good and gives me energy to keep up with my boys… and that is the ultimate goal.
I’m not in a lot of pictures, mostly because I’m usually the one taking them but partly because I don’t like how I look on camera.
One of my New Years Goals was to get my pre-baby body back. With each pregnancy I’ve added about 10lbs.
Here are the facts:
I’m 5′ 7″
Before Jude was born I weighed 150lbs
After Simon was born I weighed 189lb
In January we did the Whole30 challenge and have since adapted a primarily Paleo lifestyle and I’ve lost 20lbs in about 2 months.
I currently weigh 167lbs
My goal weight is 150 by my birthday May 12th.
Since I’ve started losing weight I feel so much better. It so much easier for me to play with the kids and my energy levels have never been higher. Weighing less give me more energy which helps me lose more weight. Up until this point I’ve be eating fairly healthy and not really exercising as much. I’ve been losing weight everyone except my belly, which is where I carry most of my weight. I once heard a fitness instructor say that to lose belly weight increase cardio training and reduce sugar intake. So that is my plan for the next 2 months.
Just like I blogged about our Whole30 challenge I am going to blog about my weight loss challenge and I would love it if you would join me. (Don’t worry this won’t become a weight loss blog, I still plan on holding awesome giveaways and sharing stories about my cute kids. I’m trying to share more about my personal life and this is what is currently going on with me.)
Alright, let’s do this!
