Mom Fashion – The Cardigan

I’ve been challenging myself to make a little extra effort with my style these days.  I don’t put a lot of effort into clothes and style not because I don’t like pretty thing or want to take care of myself but mostly because clothes cost money. I have a hard time spending money on things like clothes when there are medical bills to pay off and things I could save for like a vacation. And because I don’t want to spend money on clothes I’m generally unhappy with my wardrobe and don’t put forth effort into my look. And because the way I look effects the way I feel, I feel rather frumpy most days.

So I’m trying to work with what I have and to give myself a small allowance for clothes. I think it’s important to me to feel and look nice.

Since the weather has been so cold lately I’ve been wearing a lot of layers and that means cardigans for me. I have come to realize that I like cardigans and stripes. If it works why mess with it right?!

Better Together – The perfect summer outfit

Some things are just better together.
Peanut Butter and Jelly
Bacon and Eggs
Cotton and Rayon

Currently my favorite summer outfit is this pair of cotton shorts and rayon top (pictured above). The cotton shorts are comfortable and allow me the freedom to keep up with my 3 busy boys. My rayon top is light and flowy keeping me cool yet stylish.

Since I’ve lost 30lbs I’ve had to purchase a new summer wardrobe and I want to take good care of my new clothes. I wash them according to the directions and use top of the line products like Tide, Downy and Bounce. Using P&G products Tide, Downy and Bounce together keep clothes looking new and bright so I can look great all summer long.

Friday Fashion – Wedge Sneakers

Upere recently sent me a pair of their popular black wedge sneakers.

Upere Wedge Sneakers

I consider myself fairly trendy but I’m not usually one that creates the trends. Wedge Sneakers are a little trendier of a shoe than what I would probably pick out but I do like the basic design of the shoe, it’s the the wedge part I was skeptical about. I don’t wear heels often or really at all so I was mainly concerned I might break my neck trying to walk in them.

Well they finally arrived and I tried them on, Joe was a little apprehensive but I think I might like them. The wedge isn’t actually all that difficult to walk in and they are super comfortable. I just need to figure out HOW to wear them. My “mom” jeans just aren’t going to cut it. So I’ve been doing a little research and have found that skinny jeans are probably the best way for me to wear them. I’m sure more fashion forward people could pull of something a little more daring but this is already daring enough for me.

I put together this cute outfit that I would totally feel comfortable wearing so the new shoes wouldn’t make me feel so uncomfortable.

Friday Fashion meets Math

I’m all about some geometric prints lately. Here are just a few of my favorites…

Geometric

Since I’ve lost weight I need to buy more clothes and buying clothes is a lot more fun when they actually fit and you can wear styles and they look on you. However, I know my limitations and I probably couldn’t pull off the dress in the top right because I have broad shoulders and a large chest but i can still think it’s pretty.

Will you wear geometric prints this summer?

Fashion Friday: Going Tribal

Me and Geometry have always done well together (it was the only math class I excelled at in high school!) which is why I love the current geometric tribal print trend.

I just bought this beautiful maxi skirt from Thief & Bandit. Swoon.

I’m not sure what I will wear with it but I’ll probably go with a simple solid top and maybe cute sandals for the summer.

I usually play is safe, stick with solids and steer clear of trendy prints but I can’t resist these pretties for closet and home…

I would totally wear this outfit.

Post Pregnancy Fitness Fashion

Post Pregnancy Fitness Fashion

I’ve just started to get back into workout post-Simon. Having already lost almost 15lbs since his birth I know that exercise it important if I want to wear my old pre-pregnancy clothes. (And when I say pre-pregnancy I mean before I ever had ANY kids.)

I’m currently going to the gym 3 days a week and trying to fit in a few at home fitness routines on the other days. Weather I’m going to the gym or working out in my living room having supportive and fitting workout clothes are a must. Here are a few of my favorite post-baby exercise items.

Shoes
I like to start with a good pair of shoes. Personally, I’m a big fan of Asics but you should choose a shoe that is designed for whatever exercise you intend to do regularly and one that fits your foot well.

Sport Bra
Sports Bras are a biggie and I’m not just saying that because I’m well endowed. Your ladies need support when your running, walking, doing Zumba or lifting weights. There are even Nursing Sports Bras available so you can easily stop to feed baby if needed.

Tank Top
I sweat when I run. Weird, I know right? I have to either wear a lightweight shirt or tank top so I don’t become a hot sweaty mess before I’ve even hit the halfway mark of my exercise.

Compression Pants
Compression workout pants prevent muscle strain and fatigue, and wick sweat away from the body to prevent chafing and rashes. I prefer higher waist workout pants to hold in my post-baby tummy while I workout.

Jacket
You know for the walk from your car to the gym, so you can stay warm but still look sporty. Plus if you want to exercise outside you won’t freeze.

Water Bottle
I love my Camelbak water bottle but really any water bottle will do. You will need to stay hydrated, especially if you are breastfeeding.

Other
It’s always nice to have a good bag, yoga mat (if you’re into yoga), sports watch, athletic socks (compression socks are great if you want to run) and headband.

The main key to selecting clothes to wear when exercising is to try them on before you buy. You want to make sure they are comfortable and offer you a full range of motion. Looking stylish is just an added bonus.

Fashionable Fall Nursing Tops

You don’t NEED nursing tops but they are very helpful, especially when you want to feel discretely in public.

For years there weren’t many fashionable options for nursing mothers. There were only a few designs and they were all very obviously designed for breastfeeding. However, in recent years clothing designers and fashionable moms have worked wonders creating nursing tops that don’t look like nursing tops.

Here are a few of my favorite styles of nursing tops for Fall.
