Benji and the Giant Kite – Book Review+Giveaway

· ·

Have you ever wanted something so bad and you worked so hard to get it? Then once you achieved your goal you felt ready to let go of it and move on to the next big thing? Benji and the Giant Kite is the story of a little boy that adores kites and wants a big orange kite more than anything. He works hard to earn the money for the kite and finally get the prize he’s worked so hard to attain. He enjoys his new kite and shares it with his loved ones and finally decides to let it go because is goal had been accomplished.

Benji and the Giant Kite is based on the author, Alan C. Fox‘s real life. Fox explains that,

“BENJI AND THE GIANT KITE is based on a real-life incident. This one happened when I was a child. I decided to tell the story, because I wanted to share the sense of achievement I felt by working hard to obtain something I really loved. But once I saw the kite flying at the beach, I wanted to let it go. My dream had been accomplished. It was time to move on to another, new experience. You must always keep going to fulfill your dreams and aspirations.”

This is such a great book for kids because it teaches them to work hard to achieve their dreams but not to become stagnant once you’ve reached your goal. Life is an on-going journey full of wonderful dreams and adventures. My kids really enjoyed reading this book. They were surprised by the ending when Benji released the kite but were also satisfied and understood the reasoning behind Benji letting it go. I honestly never thought about teaching this concept to my children but I think it’s a great lesson for them to learn.
