Sea Life Charlotte

Joe and I took the boys on a little day trip to Charlotte last week to visit the new Sea Life Aquarium. The Sea Life Charlotte-Concord is located at the Concord Mills Mall.

The Sea Life Aquarium is specifically designed for kids with a touch pool, an interactive quiz, a 180* ocean tunnel & learning about our marine conservation program.

We learned about a variety of new fish from the interactive touch screens located by each tank.

The kids really enjoyed getting their hands wet and touching some of the sea life like star fish, hermit crabs and more.

They even got to go “inside” the tank for the full underwater experience.

I think Noah’s favorite exhibit was the large tank with rays and small sharks. He was captivated by the ways the stingrays moved around the side of the tank.

Jude thought the tunnel was pretty magical. I think everyone else would agree as it was the most crowded spot in the museum.

We even got to visit Neptune.

We also took a backstage tour where we learned how the aquarium operates, how to take care of the animals, and what they eat. The kids weren’t as interested in this part but I found it very interesting.

At the end of the Aquarium just before the gift shop is a large play area for kids to discover, color, or eat a snack.

The Sea Life Aquarium was a lot of fun and the kids really enjoyed getting to see all of the different fish and underwater creatures. It certainly isn’t the biggest aquarium that we’ve been to but it had a great variety of sea life and is a great place to take kids to learn about many of the wonderful things that live under the sea.

We planned our visit for a Friday morning hoping it wouldn’t be super crowded and we were right. I would recommend visiting first thing after they open to really take in the full experience. It took us a little over an hour to go through the whole aquarium which was ideal for young children that don’t have a very long attention span.
