End Violence Against Women and Pass the Purple Purse

Did you know that domestic violence affects one in every four women in their lifetime? That’s more than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer combined.

Purple Purse Project October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the Allstate Foundation launched the Purple Purse campaign. The Purple Purse donates money to the YWCA for programs that support victims of domestic violence and build financial empowerment. The YWCA is the largest provider of comprehensive services to victims of domestic violence and their children nationwide.

Speak Up, Speak Out
A majority of Americans agree that domestic violence is tough to talk about. More than one-third of Americans have never discussed the issue with family or friends. Physical abuse is the type of domestic violence most commonly discussed, but what many people don’t realize is that women who are victims of domestic violence are usually subject to financial abuse as well. They often face financial restrictions and are given limited access, if any, to bank accounts, important documents, and information about shared assets.

If you need immediate help, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233) or TTY 1-800-787-3224.

I received a purple purse which contains information about the Purple Purse Project and talking points about domestic violence. I will be passing my Purple Purse to my family and friends and encouraging them to log in to PurplePurse.com to register the purse using the code located inside the purse. For every person that registers the purse the Allstate Foundation will donate $5 to the YWCA.

You can help by virtually passing the purse.

Visit www.PurplePurse.com and enter my purse code: 01311 and your zip code to register your purse.
Each time a virtual purse is shared or re-shared, a $5 donation will be made to YWCA.

I love that AllState is doing this to bring more attention to Domestic Violence, but I wish more companies were also pointing out that domestic violence goes both ways. I know several men that were victims of their wives or girlfriends and stayed for the kids or other reasons.

wow this is such a great cause, and it does affect a lot of people and they are afraid to step forward and talk about it. Thank you for sharing, I will be registering now.

I am always so happy to hear about a large company that stands behind an important issue like this. I think violence against women is happening more and more. We really do need to put an end to it and education helps.
